You couldn't be here if stars hadn't exploded.
To the question, “Why me?” the cosmos barely bothers to return the reply, “Why not?”

Naked ladies. How do they do it?

These have been blooming all over Santa Cruz county over the last few weeks.  All at once.  How do they know?  How do they know when to bloom?  Some clock?  Some hormone?

  1. I read the letter about solutions. You know we may make it, the planet may not. What will be getting rarer and rarer is pure water that we can drink. My husband was a river planner and way back in the 70’s he said that this will be our problem in the future – water wars. Already in Georgia they fight Alabama and Florida for water. On top of that all the medication we take is going into the water – so even if we drink it we may get sick. Politics come and go – water will eventually go and we’ll be a dry planet….”results from a recent study of current living conditions throughout Africa report that more than one billion people do not have enough clean water to provide for their basic human needs. As a result, more than 2,500 children are dying each day.” As the letter you posted says “Our ancestors made it through the age of the dinosaur” yes, but at that time the population of the world was not almost 7 billion and growing at a rapid rate.

    I like your flowers.

  2. I have to agree with him. Water and food production are going to be a bigger problem than a 6 foot rise in sea level. The political mess means more delay in doing anything constructive. I think the solution is going to have to come from the bottom up... our government isn't going to be able to do anything any time soon. The more people demand of water saving devices, buy locally when possible, use less fossil fuels out of their own choices is going to be the only way this country gets started. Then maybe the government will follow along. That will take some time.

My dad is a ground water geologist and did a lot of city water source planning. He had issues in the past where farmers were battling over ground water and wells.

Liz does the flowers. I just dig holes for her. :-)
